Updating your email address: How to update an email address that was never saved?

Updated: Jan 10

With any business operating online, one thing is certain: change. Back in 2023, I decided to be more intentional with my business and needed to update my email address. I provided my new email address to my entire database, and I even set up a three-month email forwarding system, just in case anyone had forgotten. Yet, I soon realized that many of my clients were unaware of how to update my contact information.

How do you update the contact information of individuals whom you never saved as contacts?

How can you encourage others to refresh their records when your email changes?

In this blog, I'll provide you with a straightforward tutorial on how to tackle this issue and ensure seamless communication with your network.

A few ideas to start an email transaction:

  1. Send a Personalized Notification: Start with a friendly email to your clients, letting them know about your email address change. Express your gratitude for their continued support and mention that you're sharing the updated information to ensure you stay connected.

  2. Highlight the Importance: Emphasize the significance of maintaining accurate contact details. Explain that it helps in delivering timely updates, important announcements, and personalized service.

  3. Step-by-Step Tutorial: Offer a simple step-by-step guide (which we'll include shortly) on how they can update your email address in their contact list. Make it user-friendly, so even the less tech-savvy clients can follow along.

  4. Use Your Signature: In your email signature, add a brief note about the email change with a link to the tutorial. This way, every email you send serves as a reminder.

  5. Social Media Announcement: If you're active on social media, post an announcement about the email update. Encourage your followers to share the information with anyone who might need it.

  6. Personal Follow-Ups: For high-priority clients or those with whom you have frequent communication, consider making a personal follow-up call or sending a text message. This extra effort can go a long way.

Outlook:

You must have your data base delete your old contact and re-enter your new email information under a new contact.
